It is hard to believe but the first semester is almost complete. On December 20, the second quarter ends and students are off for the long awaited Winter Break. Of late, students and staff have been working through some very engaging lessons and even had a little time for fun. On 11/26 students and staff competed against each other in our annual Volleyball game. Students also competed in the first annual NMS Spelling Bee. The NMS fall fundraiser was a success and students were able on 12/5 to enjoy their rewards from participating. Thanks go out to the students and to all who supported our cause. On 12/6 the FFA fruit orders came in and should have been delivered. Please contact Lauren Cheatham if you have not yet received your fruit. In closing, we would like to wish everyone a very happy and restful holiday seasons and a Happy New Year.

What a great couple of weeks we have had recently. The last week of September we observed Start With Hello week where students, in a variety of ways, demonstrated kindness to one another. This past week we kicked off Bullying Awareness month with a school-wide lesson on cyber-bullying and students making a pledge to not bully others and to report any bullying that they see. Both of these events tie into our mission at Nelson Middle School which is to: "We will build a caring learning community dedicated to high levels of student engagement and achievement. We will accept nothing less!"
Upcoming events:
October 14- Teacher Work Day- no school for students
October 15- NMS Volleyball at home versus Buford Middle School 5pm
October 16-30 NMS Book Fair
October 18 Report cards go home
October 24,25 NMS Fall musical "James and the Giant Peach" 7pm
